After a lot of thought about this blog post, I have decided to retract it. I had heard lots of rumors that bottling butter was not safe, and figured that there was just a little paranoia going around. However, after reading this notice, I have decided that I don't think I will be bottling butter in the future. I don't think that there is any scientific evidence that bottled butter can cause botulism, but there also isn't any evidence to support it as a safe procedure.
If you would still like instructions for bottling butter, it can be found here. I advise you to use your own best judgment when deciding if this is a storage option for your family. And as always, if you feel uncomfortable about a storage method, don't do it and find an alternative instead.

ReplyDeleteWow! I didn't even know you could do this. I am a butter fiend, and now feel like I could live off of my food storage if I had to. Anything tastes better with butter on it, right? Thanks for the recipe. I am anxious to see if it survives Nevada. Thank goodness it's finally getting cooler around here.

You can buy canned butter from this website http://www.internet-grocer.net/butter.htm. i have no personal gain in telling you this, just thought it interesting that I saw both websites on the same night. Glad I found yours, recently my friend hunkered down in Houston during the Hurricane, and afterward she could not find butter or margrine in the stores. Who would of thunk! Anyhoo..happy storage!
ReplyDeleteI just bottled some butter today and I think I screwed it up. I kept shaking it and it would just seperate again. I put it in the fridge and it solidified with a white stuff on the bottom and some have a little liquid on the bottom...what should I do?
ReplyDeleteYou have to REALLY watch it while it's in the fridge. And shake it every minute or so after you put it in. One of mine started hardening while it was a little separated, and I had to shake it really hard to get it to mix. I'd say just watch them really well after they go into the fridge and you should be fine.
ReplyDeleteI love to prepare some recipe with potatoes although i know that a person can gain weight if eat potatoes frequently, but i can´t deny that i really like the flavor, most of all when is combine it with some ingredients. Simply delicous. And when i cook, my husband usually is very happy.
